The Shreveport Regional Arts Council in collaboration with Caddo Parks and Recreation will presents its 3rd month of UNCOMMON programming in Caddo Common Park. Sunday afternoon, 12 noon – 4:30 pm), June 20, the Park will feature “Sunday in the Park with Artists…and Animals.” The free event is sponsored by Ochsner LSU Health, Citizens National Bank, Community Network, Inc., and a grant from the Community Foundation of North Louisiana. The activities are planned with an emphasis to entertain and recognize Fathers on their special annual Day.
The featured Artists are from throughout Northwest Louisiana and include Whitney Hunter leading YOGA, Hands-on-Activity with Crystalyn Whitaker, Plein Aire Painting with Ben Moss and Chet McDaniel, poetry by Poetic X, ML Dumars, and Debra Roberson, and performances by Stage Center, Mollie Corbett and our main act “Sweet Nay.”
The “Animal Ambassadors” are from the Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park! The June wildlife presentation features “Perfect Pollinators.” Park Animal Ambassadors will talk about the role that birds, bat, bees and some insects play in plant reproduction and the production of fruits and vegetables. In addition, local Beekeepers will bring out their bees, have honey tasting, play games and more.
Sunday, June 20 debuts the cool new AARP funded permanent ADA-accessible table sets with umbrellas to bring shade and comfort. The tables, seating and umbrellas are funded through an AARP Community Challenge grant with the donation of the installation by Ralph Whitely Construction.
Father’s Day Sunday in Caddo Common Park starts with a rigorous work out presented by Caddo Parish Parks & Recreation with Fitness Activities led by Juston Joneson of Imperium Fitness/Planet Fitness and Darcell “Swoll” Francois of YOKAFELA/Plex.
Take a refreshing break from exercise to hear live performances and enjoy Food Truck yummies from RNL Authentics serving West African and American Cuisine, Dripp Donuts serving Gormet Sourdough Donuts for your special Dads and cool libations from Thrifty Liquor.
Not prepared to share a gift with Dad? It’s not too late, there is an Arts Market with gifts by Joshua Brittan, Cristena Francis, Sherry Tamburo, Chet McDaniel, and Bon Moss. There are also hands-on activities that will make any Dad – or Mom, family member or friend proud.
