The event is the anchor of the organization's critic's series. Renown national art critics will travel to Shreveport to review and critique the pieces, ultimately naming the Best in Show for visual and literary categories.

The second goal is to present the artists with the opportunity to have a conversation about the work that's designed to help them expand their reach outside of the region, Atchison said. Some past winners and participants of the critic's series have increased national sales and exhibition shows.

Stan "The Record Man" Lewis Musician Application

Lewis became a one-stop operator (other record stores would buy from him) and distributor of independent record labels: Atlantic, Chess, Modern, Specialty, and Imperial. STAN is renown as one of the nation’s great Music Producers because he is one of the ONLY to record, manufacture, and distribute records.

Stan would go on to form Jewel, Paula and Ronn Records in Shreveport, and is, arguably, one of the most significant figures in the history of R&B, or even American music, period. (©Martin Gavin 2006 and 2012)

The Shreveport Regional Arts Council with the Parish of Caddo and BHP BILLITON will tribute Stan “the Record Man” Lewis… better known as Uncle Stan the “Hip Hit Record Man” with a music festival – Saturday, September 26.

UNDISPUTED! ART TEAM CALL

UNDISPUTED! is an elimination competition leading to afinal round where the winning artists’ team will take home a cash prize of $10,000 dollars.  Based upon the number of eligible entries, there may be advanced preliminary rounds leading to a final selection for the Live Audience.

UNDISPUTED! Game Goal:  A physical object must be created over the course of a series of timed rounds.  Think of the TV Cooking elimination show, “Chopped!” There is an elimination after each “round” (appetizer, entrée and dessert).  The initial rounds are shorter and build to a final 30 minute round. A Secret Ingredient(s) will be introduced at each round.  Successful completed projects will include multidisciplinary representation. The judging will include the process of creating the physical object as well as the final product itself.  Each team will go through a series of elimination rounds. The rounds will be viewed by the jurors and audience from the arena seating and via projected video footage.

Deadline: Friday May 29, 2015
Date: SATURDAY, JUNE 27

PERFORMING ARTS SHOWCASE APPLICATION

This event that provides Critical Review for Performing Artists will be held on Tuesday, June 23. Each individual performer will perform for up to 10 minutes; group performances are a maximum of 15 minutes.  The size of the venue will be selected based upon the needs of the performance and size of the groups.  (For example, if all submissions are by individual performers, the Showcase may take place at the Engine Room of the Central ARTSTATION; if large group performances are submitted, we will identify a suitable theatre.)  Critic, Anne Marie Welsh will view all performances, make the decisions about the BEST OF SHOW award and other performers/performances that merit verbal commentary AFTER the PERFORMING ARTS SHOWCASE  – this promises to be a “long/late” but highly entertaining evening!

The selected BEST OF SHOW performer/performance will receive $2,000 in order to mount a full length production/concert to be staged at a mutually agreeable time within three months of the selection.  The final performance will be advertised in a national publication.

The lead/contact Artist will be on the NWLA Artist’s Directory by the May 29 deadline.

TEMPORARY BIKE SHARROWS ARTIST CALL

The Shreveport Regional Arts Council is partnering with local cycling advocacy group, Bike Shreveport to paint temporary bike sharrows on downtown streets. Sharrow is the term given to road markings that denote that the road is shared, and to show cyclists the safest placement on the road.

Shreveport Common is an UNcommon cultural community. Sharrows within these 9 blocks are to be custom designed by artists, to reflect and advance the Vision of a creative, UNique, bikeable, walkable neighborhood. For this temporary project, 3 sharrow designs will be chosen to line both sides of Elvis Presley Avenue, as a physical example of what shared roads will look like in Shreveport Common. It is SRAC’s hope that this will pave the way for artist-designed, custom sharrows within Shreveport Common when the full Caddo-Shreveport bike plan is implemented by NLCOG later this year.

Deadline: Midnight Wednesday May 27, 2015
