The Bakowski Bridge of Lights on the Texas Street Bridge
(Shreveport, LA) Summers are for staying out late, dancing under the stars, strolling along the riverfront, and enjoying the bright new light shows on the Bakowski Bridge of Lights on the Texas Street Bridge. At least that’s what this summer in Shreveport/Bossier City is for, starting with the first Friday GLO Fest, June 3, featuring the ArtBreak Light Show designed by the students and families who attended and created their own light show at ArtBreak. Join this FREE, festival of fun with a spectacular light show, Artists’ Market, Food Trucks, musicians, spoken word artists and theatrical “encounters” along the Shreveport Riverfront at Riverfront Plaza in back of the Shreveport Aquarium from 7:00-10:00 p.m. The Bridge glows at 9:00 p.m.
This first June 3 GLO Fest is shining the light on ArtBreak and some of the outstanding work from this annual showcase of student art. The 36th ArtBreak in May of 2022 was brighter than ever with special Light It Up! activities that more than 1,500 4th grade students and visiting families participated in to light up the Bakowski Bridge of Lights on the Texas Street Bridge. Come to the June 3 GLO Fest, bring your ArtBreak Light It Up Coloring Book, and see your light shine.
ArtBreak 36th’s Best of Show and People’s Choice award winning talent, Jordan Hollins will be the featured entertainer for the evening of GLO Fest on June 3rd at 7:30 p.m. Hollins literally wowed the ArtBreak crowds with his powerful rendition of Sam Cooke’s, “A Change is Gonna Come.” Hollins has had over 3 million views on TikTok and will now have a chance to audition for NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” The LA Legends Cheer Squad will also perform before during the evening.
The incredible light show designed by Academy Award-Winning author and illustrator William Joyce that was created to debut the Bukowski Bridge of Lights will also light up the night sky during the June 3 GLO Fest. You can also have your very own light shining brightly on the bridge by adopting a light for a year for $250. Food vendors will include WonderStick Ice Cream; Cotton Candy Crush, LLC with its unique SnoBalls, nachos, hotdogs, pickles and more; and Mi Meza Latin Cuisine.
Families can enjoy three spectacular GLO Fests throughout the summer of 2022 brought to you by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC), the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority (DDA), and the Bossier Arts Council (BAC) on June 3, during the July 4 KTBS Freedom Fest, and on August 3rd to close out the summer. Each GLO Fest features a Student Artists’ and a Professional Artists’ Light Show. An Artists’ Market, food trucks,
musicians, spoken word artists and theatrical “encounters” add to the GLO Fest fun. Park across the street between Sci-Port and the J. Bennett Johnson Visitor Center in the Baily’s Garage. For more information, visit www.TexasStreetBridge.com .
