Art & Commercialism: Maximizing Your POETential
In this Workshop, Poetic X will give Xamples on how to take older or newly crafted art ideas and convert them into currency and other opportunites. Poetic will also provide insight on how collaborations between Artists can generate generous autonomous societies.
Tap into the power of Poetry.
About the Artist:
Poetic X has been writing, performing and teaching poetry for more than a dozen years and appears at schools, universities, churches, festivals, private events and conferences. He grew up in Shreveport’s Lakeside/Allendale neighborhoods and observed his surroundings closely from an early age. That inspired his poetry. “I picked flowers and wrote poetry for my mother as a child,” he said in an interview.
He sees poetry as a unifier and said he uses it as a mechanism to help people identify and reach their deepest potential. “Regardless of race or nationality, our roots are extensions of a divine network,” he said. “We're the nucleus of the narrative. We are the main characters in our ‘xistence, xperience.’”
He continued: “No life shall go without poetry…. So many questions to ask in a world with limited answers…We all have a poem/picture/sound being developed or completed in our lives at this very moment, whether it’s a relationship, friendship, leadership, scholarship etc.”
The Shreveport Regional Arts Council offers an annual week-long “KAT” Residency for a Visual Artist, a Performing Artist, and a Literary Artist. This application is open exclusively to Artists who reside in Louisiana.
The selected Artists will be awarded a one-week Retreat/Residency in the KAT, with its unique architecture and historical significance. The apartment is fully equipped with a stocked kitchen, 1.5 baths, a queen-sized bed, living room, and a rooftop that provides a panoramic view of downtown Shreveport and the Shreveport Common neighborhood. Each floor of the KAT is a separate room… there are five floors and a rooftop; there is not an elevator. The stairs are quite manageable; however, each element of the space is on a different floor.
