Photography is collision of art and science. It allows me to tap my analytical and nerdy side to allow me to express my creativity.
As an artist I am multidiscipline, but currently I my main passion and focus is photography, specifically an area known as alternative process photography. Photography for me is where science and art collide. It allows for me to satisfy the nerdy and artistic parts of my personality unlike anything else. Photography for me is a meditative process that takes place not only when I am taking the picture but also when I am making the print in the darkroom.
One purpose of art has, from the dawn of man, been to document the world. Our world is in a constant state of flux, everything in is a state of change and art is no different. Since the inception of photography in the 1820’s it has been present at almost every major sociological change. Photography has been there document, illustrate, shape and influence the world. It has paved the way for social and technological change.
Chemical based photography is such a specialized art form that is quite literally dying out. There are many processes that will be lost to history and it has become my personal mission to help document and save this piece of mankind’s history.
I grew up in Shreveport and over the years I have seen homes and buildings with beautiful architecture fall apart, burn in a fire, and get torn down. Not only do I want to help preserve the history of photography, I want to do document and help to preserve the history of my home town. Eventually I would like to document the social aspects of this city as well as others.
Our current society has reached a point where everything is in fast forward. Our communication has been reduced to 160 characters. I like to slow down and explore our world. As I look around I see details that others miss. I feel an obligation to document and preserve these details for the future generations. I want to share my observations with the world.
When people see my work often I am asked where these photographs were taken. Often, they cannot believe that the picture is of a building that they have passed by repeatedly for years. I want people to see Shreveport for the beauty that have never realized it is.
